The Morganite
The morganite stone is a fine stone which owes in particular its pink color, to the presence of manganese in its composition. Rich in cesium, the color of this stone generally changes according to the way it is lit; so it’s a gem that has good pleochroism. It can have different pink hues, ranging from pale, carmine or orange.
A little history...
From the Beryls family, Morganite is a stone whose discovery dates back to 1902 in California. Some believe, however, that it is rather in Madagascar that this beautiful stone was discovered, in 1911. Anyway, the update of this stone remains relatively recent compared to those of other stones. Originally called "Beryl Rose", it is a stone which owes its current name to the American banker John Pierpont Morgan. It was George Frederick Kunz, the famous gemologist, who decided to call it that, in honor of the name of his friend, great philanthropist and collector of minerals.
Provenance
The extraction of Morganite is mainly done in Afghanistan, Brazil and Madagascar. There are also other places of extraction like China, the United States, Mozambique and Namibia. Each region offers its own pink hues.
