The term Rhodolite is a variety denomination for a pyrope whose color goes from pink to red, it is a species which belongs to the group of garnets. It is found in the Cowee Valley (Macon County, North Carolina). The name, derived from the Greek, means similar to rose and the radical rhod- is found in many other types of pink minerals (eg rhodochrosite, rhodonite), but the term rhodolite itself is not officially recognized in mineralogy . This coloring, along with the fact that garnets from this locality generally do not include inclusions, has made rhodolite used as a semi-precious gem.
